Almaviva 1998 is a classic from the early years of the legendary Chilean winery Viña Almaviva, which was founded in 1997 as an exclusive joint venture between French winery owner Baron Philippe de Rothschild and the Chilean corporation Concha y Toro. This 1998 vintage documents the beginning of a wine legend that combines Bordeaux elegance with the power of Chilean Andean terroirs. Located in Puente Alto near Santiago, the winery has since established itself as a producer of world-class red wines and is considered by wine connoisseurs to be a masterpiece of the nouvelle vague of Chilean premium wines.

On the palate, this Almaviva presents a deep, concentrated aroma of fully ripe cassis berries, plums, and subtle nuances of cedar wood and graphite. The structure is complex and full-bodied, with elegant tannins supported by juicy fruit and mineral precision. The interplay of concentrated fruit, distinct acidity structure, and harmonious length underscores the high quality of this characterful vintage from a pioneering era of South American viticulture.

This wine is an excellent accompaniment to grilled beef preparations, lamb specialties, or mature hard cheeses. Pairing it with spiced meat dishes or classic pasta creations with rich sauces brings out its full complexity.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
