Castello di Brolio Castello di Brolio 1997 The Castello di Brolio winery represents the historical heart of Chianti Classico and harks back to the recipe developed in 1824 by Baron Bettino Ricasoli, which continues to define the regional identity to this day. The red wine from this vintage follows this strict tradition, based on a high proportion of Sangiovese, complemented by other authorized red grape varieties from the consortium. The climatically exceptional year of 1997 was characterized by intense heat and periods of drought, leading to concentrated grape development and a shortened growing season. The subsequent oak aging structured the alcohol framework, while the subsequent bottle aging softened the polyphenols.

During tasting, the wine reveals itself to be in an advanced stage of maturity with a wide spectrum of tertiary aromas. In addition to nuances of leather, smoky tobacco notes, and dried herbs, ripe cherry and plum tones emerge on the palate, gently combining with sandy minerality. The tannins have become completely mellow, creating a velvety texture, flanked by stable acidity. The long finish lingers persistently on the palate. It is recommended to pair with roasted game, aged hard cheeses, mushroom dishes, or traditional meat ragouts, where the pronounced spiciness perfectly balances the wine.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
