Château Brane-Cantenac 2015 is one of the most consistent Second Growths of the Margaux appellation, combining traditional Bordeaux elegance with precise grape selection. Since taking over in 2014, the winery under François Mitjavile has deliberately avoided excessive oak aging to better highlight the primary fruit. The outstanding 2015 vintage ensured fully physiologically ripe berries with ideal acidity balance, which is immediately noticeable in the extract weight. The main cuvée is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and small proportions of Petit Verdot, resulting in an architecturally clear structure without any excessive opulence.

Sensory analysis reveals a consistent dark red with intense nuances of blackcurrant, peppery notes, cedar, and a hint of tobacco leaf. The vines yield fine-grained tannins, harmoniously interwoven with clean minerality. Professional publications highlight its balanced length, with the fruit already accessible. The recommended drinking window is between 2024 and 2036, meaning early consumption does not entail any loss of quality, while longer storage intensifies the spice.

Recommended pairings include braised beef fillet, wild boar, or spicy mountain cheese. Simply cooked protein dishes with red pepper or juniper optimally highlight the mineral foundation of this classic.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
