Chateau Capbern 2020 embodies the charismatic balance of a tradition-conscious winery that blends down-to-earth values with meticulous modernity. The wine impresses with concentrated fruit, subtle spice, and a supple structure that lends the 2020 vintage typical Bordeaux depth. The estate's distinctive character lies in its careful selection of vineyard plots, respectful vinification, and consistent aging, which allows substance and elegance to merge seamlessly.

On the nose, ripe blackberries, cassis, and plum unfold, accompanied by subtle notes of vanilla, cocoa, and smoke. On the palate, the 2020 Capbern presents silky tannins, a good balance of fruit and structure, and a minerally, invigorating length on the finish. Critics such as Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator appreciate the complexity and potential of this vintage, which will continue to develop over the coming years. Optimal drinking window is expected between 2025 and 2032, although the wine can already be enjoyed now and will gain in balance with aeration.

Food pairing recommendation: A perfectly grilled beef steak or ribeye, accompanied by fried mushrooms and a slightly aged cheese such as Comté or Gouda – this allows the wine to fully develop its structure and fine fruitiness.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
