Château Climens 1917 is an iconic dessert wine from the Bordeaux region, a classic Sauternes from Barsac, renowned for its delicate balance between concentrated botrytis sweetness and fresh, elegant acidity. The Climens estate is among the most prestigious in the appellation, representing a stylish approach that combines opulence with finesse. The 1917 vintage is historically significant: bottles matured during this period exhibit remarkable finesse and exceptional aging potential. Expert reviews from Falstaff, Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise the subtle balance of this estate. On the nose, notes of honey and orange blossom unfold, accompanied by dried apricots, almond, and a light mineral freshness that balances the sweetness while adding depth.

On the palate, texture and complexity are preserved: a silky, creamy sweetness of ripe tropical fruits, honey, and citrus, supported by a delicate saline note and a subtly present structure. The finish is long, multifaceted, and elegant, with spice and nutty nuances that honor its age without fading. This characteristic makes the 1917 Climens an exciting choice for festive occasions and as an accompaniment to cheese or desserts; food pairing recommendation: foie gras, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, or creamy desserts with almond or lemon notes and a light nutty nuance.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
