Chateau Clos Marsalette 2018 is a Pessac-Leognan from the Left Bank of Bordeaux, a protected region in the heart of the Graves district. The estate works with a carefully calibrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which has become the standard in this appellation. The 2018 vintage presents itself as an expressive red wine that reflects the characteristics of the soil and weather conditions of this southwestern French wine region.

In the glass, this wine shows a dense color and moderate intensity. The nose reveals notes of black currants, fine herbs, and discreetly integrated oak notes. On the palate, it impresses with a balanced structure with present but not dominant tannins, which create an elegant wine texture. The body appears concentrated without feeling heavy or flat, and the acidity balance contributes to a pleasant finish that leaves no lack of short-term complexity.

The 2018 vintage reaches its optimal drinking maturity from 2024 and will hold until about 2030, with the best drinking phases being between 2025 and 2028. This bottle pairs ideally with robust meat dishes such as roast beef, braised beef stock, or even well-seasoned duck. The wine also harmonizes with mature hard cheeses and medium-ripened cheeses.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
