Château d’Aiguilhe from 2000 embodies the historic winemaking tradition of the Lot Valley combined with the elegance of a river island location. The winery is one of the oldest cultivated plots in Cahors and has always focused on traditional Malbec winemaking. The 2000 vintage marks a turning point for the region, as ideal summer and harvest weather guaranteed full phenolic ripeness with fresh acidity. Critics regularly point out the rare harmony created here from dark fruit, lighter spice notes, and subtle oak barrel aging, with the alcoholic components never overpowering.

In sensory evaluation, the wine reveals a deep dark ruby core with purple rim reflections. Dominant notes of blackcurrant jam, cedarwood, smoky tobacco, and a hint of leather accompany each other. The aging has refined the wine over the years, with tannins settling silkily around the palate, while a long, warm-mineral finish concludes. The optimal drinking window extends from 2017 to 2037, with the current stage already signaling full drinking maturity without losing its supporting structure. A brief aeration is sufficient to fully unfold the aromatic layers.

The characteristic spice and richness of Cahors pair best with intense roasts. Braised beef, venison or wild boar specialties, and slow-cooked lamb are classic companions. Mature hard cheeses like Ossau-Iraty or hearty vegetable stews with dark ingredients are also convincing. The ideal serving temperature range is sixteen to eighteen degrees Celsius, allowing the fine fruit dynamics and tannic balance to be perceived enduringly.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
