Château d'Yquem 1994 is an icon among sweet wines, representing the estate that sets the standard in the world of dessert wines. Yquem's distinctive character lies in the rigorous selection of grapes affected by noble rot, harvested in multiple passes to achieve a perfect balance of concentration and freshness. This vintage displays impressive ripeness: golden to honey-colored reflections, a rich perfume with notes of apricot, pineapple, honey, and delicate vanilla, framed by subtle botrytis aromas. The estate utilizes its distinctive terroir to combine power with finesse, allowing the wine to gain complexity over decades without sacrificing its elegance. Critics such as Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Wine Spectator typically praise the depth, structure, and slow aging potential of this vintage.

On the palate, a creamy, silky texture unfolds, revealing a rich fruit palette of ripe apricots, peach, and pineapple, accompanied by honey, dried plums, and a hint of nut. The acidity remains elegantly integrated, lending the wine freshness and impressive length. The finish is long and honeyed, with a subtle spiciness that invites further savoring. Food pairing recommendation: Foie gras, Roquefort or other mild blue cheeses, as well as Tarte Tatin or almond desserts – all perfect companions to this complex sweet wine.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
