Chateau Figeac 1976 unfolds as a classic Bordeaux from the Saint-Émilion contingent, its character shaped by a striking Cabernet Franc dominance in the blend, combined with ripe Merlot. The Figeac winery is known for its terroir, characterized by limestone soils and alluvium, which gives the wine an elegant structure with mineral freshness. Critics such as Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, and Wine Spectator praise the 1976 vintage for its balance, depth, and finesse—an appreciation that lives up to the estate's reputation for combining historical results with modern clarity.

On the nose, a ripe mixture of blackcurrants, dried plums, tobacco, fine wood, and a delicate mineral note reminiscent of graphite unfolds. On the palate, the wine is supple, with velvety tannins, an earthy depth, and elegant oak aromas that carry the wine through the long finish. The complexity, the foundation of structure and freshness, makes the 1976 a remarkable example of age-worthiness and memorability, with the developmental stages remaining visible in the flanks of the glass.

Food Pairing: This vintage depth pairs well with roasted duck, lamb ragout, or aged cheese like Comté; a moderate drinking temperature of about 16–18°C is recommended so that the aromas can fully unfold. Ruby notes harmonize with dark chocolate, elegantly completing the evening menu.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
