Chateau Figeac Chateau Figeac 2016

The high proportion of Cabernet Franc shapes the identity of the estate and clearly distinguishes this Bordeaux from its Merlot-dominated neighbors in Saint-Émilion. The outstanding 2016 vintage offered ideal conditions, which is why critics particularly highlight its precise structure and minerality. The chalky soils guarantee a natural complexity, which considerably enhances its aging potential.

On the palate, ripe black fruits dominate, underscored by cedarwood, damp earth, and graphite. The tannins are fine-grained, making the wine approachable now, but it will deepen further. The optimal drinking window is currently opening and extends into the early thirties of the new decade, during which leathery and spicy facets will slowly develop.

Braised beef, roasted chicken, or spicy game dishes are suitable accompaniments. A rich, aged cheese harmoniously complements the arrangement. Lovers of traditional Bordeaux styles will find this a worthwhile recommendation.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
