Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste Variation Case 2020 brings the characteristic signature of a Pauillac Grand Cru Classé to the glass. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the renowned estates of the Médoc and is classified as a Cinquième Cru Classé. The 2020 vintage combines ripe fruit with the cool, linear structure that makes Bordeaux particularly age-worthy. This edition is for you if you are looking for a distinctive red wine with depth and potential for development.

The nose reveals blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, accompanied by cedar, graphite and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet precise. Firm tannins provide structure, while the fresh acidity creates tension. With a little air, spicy nuances and a long, mineral finish unfold. The 2020 is already interesting, but gains significantly in harmony with a few years of bottle aging. Its optimal drinking window lies approximately between 2028 and 2050.

Serve it at around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and give it sufficient time in the decanter. This Pauillac pairs particularly well with pink-seared beef fillet, rack of lamb or braised beef cheek. It also forms a harmonious contrast with aged hard cheese.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
