Château Guiraud 2001 Half Bottle offers the concentrated elegance of a mature Sauternes in a convenient half-bottle format. Château Guiraud is one of Sauternes’ renowned Premier Crus Classés. The 2001 vintage is considered particularly successful, combining lavish sweetness with the fresh acidity that keeps great sweet wines lively. Please note: Despite being labeled as a red wine, this product is a white sweet wine from Sauternes.

In the glass, Château Guiraud 2001 typically shows ripe aromas of honey, candied citrus fruits, apricot and dried yellow fruits. These are joined by delicate hints of vanilla, caramel and spice. On the palate, it is rich and supple, but not heavy. Lively acidity carries through to the long, sweet-spiced finish. The half bottle is particularly well suited to an enjoyable evening for two or as a stylish end to a meal.

This vintage is ready to drink now and, if stored well, can continue to delight for many years. Serve it well chilled, but not ice cold. It pairs especially harmoniously with foie gras, robust blue cheeses or desserts featuring apricot, peach and caramelized nuts. It also adds an elegant, aromatically complex accent to a classic tarte Tatin.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
