Chateau Latour Chateau Latour 1998 brings the power and precision of a great Pauillac to the table. The Grand Vin of Château Latour comes from one of the Médoc’s most prestigious estates and represents long-lived Bordeaux wines with a clear Cabernet Sauvignon character. The 1998 vintage showcases the classic strength of the Left Bank of the Gironde, combining ripe fruit with structured depth.

In the glass, this red wine displays a deep ruby hue with emerging brick-red reflections. The bouquet evokes blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by cedar, graphite, tobacco and a subtle earthy spice. On the palate, the 1998 is powerful and balanced. Ripe tannins provide structure, while cassis, dark berries and mineral notes carry through to the long finish. Its development makes it especially appealing if you appreciate mature Bordeaux with finesse and distinctive structure.

The wine is now in an attractive drinking window and, if stored well, can be enjoyed until around 2035. Ideally, open it a little before serving and pair it with beef fillet, braised leg of lamb or entrecôte with a rich sauce. This Pauillac also reveals its elegant, savory side alongside aged hard cheese.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
