Chateau Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer 2000 embodies the sophisticated approach of the Margaux estate, where a deliberate focus on Merlot and Cabernet Franc ensures remarkable tenderness. As a second wine, there is no compromise here; only grapes from particularly old vineyards are used, giving the 2000 vintage southern warmth and complexity despite its origins on the Left Bank. This particularity results in an early approachable profile without any rough edges. Selective hand-picking and careful blending guarantee consistent quality, which loses little of its expression even after years in the cellar.

In the glass, it reveals an intense garnet red with an orange-tinged rim, accompanied by aromas of candied plums, highly aromatic herbs, and a hint of vanilla oak. On the palate, there are velvety polished tannins, a balanced structure, and a long, slightly earthy finish, stemming from years of barrique aging. Due to its full drinking maturity, this example is ready to be enjoyed, with its smooth balance harmonizing excellently with gently spiced venison, baked pumpkin dishes, or aromatic hard cheeses.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
