Château Poujeaux 2009 represents the characteristic elegance of the Moulis-en-Médoc terroir, distinguishing itself with a deliberately high proportion of Cabernet Franc, which imparts a distinctive herbal spice and early drinkability to the Bordeaux. The winery consistently employs organic practices and completely foregoes technical additives, thereby fully preserving the authentic expression of the terroir. The exceptional 2009 vintage offered ideal climatic conditions with warm ripening periods and cool nights, resulting in concentrated grapes with perfect acid-driven balance.

Tasting reveals a profound profile of ripe cherry and blackberry fruits, enhanced by subtle notes of cedar, dry leaves, and a slight mineral trace. The tannins appear fine-grained and elegantly integrated, the mid-palate feels velvety, while the structure remains clearly defined. The optimal drinking window begins in the current year and continues steadily until approximately 2035, promising both immediate drinking pleasure and further aging potential.

For food pairing, slow-cooked lamb rack or smoked pork hock are recommended. The natural fat content and roasted aromas of these meat dishes perfectly balance the Bordeaux's subtle tannin structure, allowing its complex fruit and earthy notes to unfold lastingly on the palate.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
