Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 is a Grand Cru Classé from Pessac-Léognan (Graves), managed by the Cathiard family and known for innovative quality work in the classic Bordeaux style. The 2009 vintage is among the stronger years of the 2000s in the Bordeaux region and showcases the full potential of this renowned estate.

The wine combines elegance with a powerful structure. The nose reveals notes of dark fruits, graphite, and fine herbs, while on the palate, a precise tannic framework, ripe blackcurrants, and a mineral core underscore its complexity. The concentration of the 2009 is rounded out by remarkable length and excellent balance – a wine that authentically represents the typical Graves characteristic with its earthy depth and structure.

This vintage is on the threshold of its optimal drinking window and is already showing its secondary developments, yet it remains drinkable for years to come. The complexity of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 makes it an excellent companion to braised lamb, braised beef parcels, or cheeses with pronounced umami notes.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
