Château Troplong Mondot 1994 presents itself as a clear testament to the dominance of its lime-rich terroir, which is why the vineyards are located on a natural sandstone plateau above Cheval Blanc. This exposed location ensures optimal sun exposure and natural drainage, which, together with conservative harvesting techniques, lays the foundation for remarkable aging potential. The 1994 vintage is one of the reference years of the nineties, as dry summer months were followed by balanced autumn weather. This climatic constellation produced extract-rich grapes with intact acidity, allowing the wine enjoyed today to achieve a rare harmonious balance between power and elegance.

On the nose, a dense spectrum of black berries, candied lemon, graphite, leather, and subtle smoky aromas unfolds. On the palate, the high tannin ripeness impresses with a silky texture, while the medium body and well-managed acidity structure the long finish. The optimal drinking maturity begins exactly now and is estimated to extend until the end of 2029. Roasted duck roulades, wild braised meat, grilled lamb, or aged Alpine mountain cheese are excellent pairings for this stage of maturity.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
