Clos Saint Jean Deus ex Machina Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2019 unites the richness of the southern Rhône with distinct drinkability. The winery established itself by foregoing artificial interventions and focusing on decades-old vines, which gives the 2019 vintage a special character. In a classic warm year, the berries develop dense extract ripeness while also possessing fruity nuances, which are rare for this region. The composition from several micro-parcels provides a complex foundation that effortlessly combines grape variety diversity and terroir effects.

In the glass, a rich garnet with a violet periphery dominates. The nose reveals ripening black cherries, wild raspberries, and subtle spice notes of wild oregano and bay leaf. On the palate, the structure convinces with fine, well-integrated chewable tannins and supportive fruit acidity. Earthy tones, leathery undertones, and a pinch of black pepper round off the spectrum. The finish is velvety and persistent, with the clarity of the characteristics lingering long and underlining the high professional estimation of this vintage.

Optimal drinking maturity is expected to begin in 2025 and last until approximately 2040. The recommendation is to serve the drink at fifteen to seventeen degrees Celsius. Hearty kid goat, slow-braised hare, or roasted root vegetable creations accompany it harmoniously. A short exposure to oxygen before serving further intensifies the olfactory level.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
