Domaine de la Janasse Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2016 embodies the precise craftsmanship of a leading family in the Rhône Valley. For decades, the winery has consistently relied on organic farming and minimalist cellar work to reflect the original character of the woody Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault vines without artificial intervention. The 2016 vintage benefited from a balanced climate, which helped the vines develop both full ripeness and structural freshness. These conditions shaped a red wine that, despite its earthy substance, emphasizes modern elegance and drinkability.

The bouquet opens with intense aromas of ripe wild cherries, wild blueberries, and subtle spice notes of black pepper and thyme. On the palate, the tasting sample impresses with a velvety texture, well-integrated tannins, and a long, mineral-earthy finish, hinting at typical garrigue brush. The optimal drinking maturity is between 2024 and 2030, with careful storage gradually deepening the aromatic multi-dimensionality.

This red wine pairs excellently with slow-roasted, hot dishes from our kitchen. An intensely seasoned lamb fillet or a hearty venison ragout will develop their strongest flavor profiles in parallel, as will a mature mountain cheese or smoked pork from the low mountain range.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
