Elvio Cogno Barolo Ravera 2016 is a rigorous yet elegant interpretation of a Barolo from Ravera, Elvio Cogno's legendary cru in the Langhe region. The winery combines tradition with a precise terroir of clay and limestone soils, which allows Nebbiolo to express itself with particular expressiveness. The 2016 vintage displays structure and freshness in a balanced way: finely nuanced fruit, present yet restrained oak influences, and a style that emphasizes both sustainability and origin.

The aroma unfolds a complex bouquet of red cherries, violets, rosemary, and a mineral note; on the palate, the 2016 Ravera displays concentrated fruit, a dense body, and polished tannins. Notes of cedar, tar, and spice intertwine with a vibrant acidity that lends the wine tension without dominating, leading to a long, elegant finish.

The optimal drinking window is expected to be from the early to mid-2020s into the 2030s; a development that should further enhance the character of this cru. Food pairing recommendation: Truffle risotto, seared beef steak, sous-vide braised lamb roast, or mushroom dishes with creamy sauce – dishes that perfectly complement the depth and complexity of the Barolo Ravera 2016.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
