Felsina Fontalloro 1999 represents the honest working methodology of the Felsina winery in the Chianti highlands, where the focus is on long-lived varietal wines. The pure vinification from unique native grape varieties is striking, meaning that despite its high quality, it is deliberately kept outside of official blending categories. The 1999 vintage offered ideal climatic conditions with continuous warmth and moderate temperature differences between day and night. These circumstances allowed for full aroma ripeness while maintaining an intact fruit acidity structure, which has given this now fully developed wine remarkable stability.

Sensory analysis reveals a rich ruby red with initial amber hues at the rim, indicating an advanced stage of maturity. The nose opens with a wide range of dried red berries, smoked cedar wood, tobacco accents, wild herbs, and a noticeable mineral note. On the palate, the wine convinces with a medium-bodied structure, gently polished tannins, and a clear acidic spine that effortlessly connects fruity core notes of plums, spices, and earth. The finish is sustained, dry, and elegantly balanced. The optimal drinking maturity is currently at its positive peak and extends until 2035, provided cool and consistent cellar storage is guaranteed.

For suitable gastronomic pairings, herbaceous-aromatic dishes from traditional cuisine are recommended. Braised game, a spicy mushroom risotto, or an aged Pecorino cheese highlight the complex earthy and spicy phases without overpowering the delicate structure of the wine. This creates a harmonious table companion for ambitious connoisseurs.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
