Ferraton Père & Fils Côte-Rôtie Montmain 2017

This Syrah from the Côte-Rôtie displays the classic elegance of the northern Rhône – intense in aroma, yet never overpowering. The grapes are sourced from the renowned Montmain vineyard, where steep granite soils lend the grapes their characteristic profile. The 2017 harvest delivers red fruits, delicate pepper notes, and velvety tannins that hold the glass together from the first sip to the last.

Ferraton Père & Fils is considered a trusted name for high-quality Côte-Rôties – the winery works with small parcels and remains authentic to the spirit of the appellation. The 2017 vintage already offers impressive maturity: the tannins have integrated without the wine losing its sharpness or complexity. The aromas are reminiscent of blackcurrants, graphite, and a hint of violet.

This wine will best unfold over the next five to ten years, but it can also be enjoyed now. Decanting an hour before serving brings out its fine nuances. An ideal companion to grilled lamb, game-marinated beef, or rich braised dishes – its acidity and structure effortlessly cut through even robust sauces.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
