François Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Champ-Gains 2014 unites the Carillon house's grounded philosophy with the distinctive limestone marl soils of Champ-Gains. The producer avoids unnecessary manipulation, allowing the wine to express its original terroir dynamics unfiltered. The 2014 vintage stands for fresh acidity profiles and elegant structures, as the late harvest, due to favorable weather conditions, guaranteed optimal phenolic ripeness. This combination of cooler climatic influences and careful vinification creates an open expression that, despite its youthful richness, already shows full transparency.

The tasting reveals a complex bouquet of white flowers, citrus notes, baked apple, and subtle mineral undertones reminiscent of wet river stones. On the palate, the wine presents with a rich body, precise tension, and a long, clean finish, which is typical for the outstanding Premiers Crus of this location. As the structure has harmoniously integrated, the bottle is currently at its optimal drinking maturity and offers a stable enjoyment period of three to five years. Suitable accompaniments include creamy fish specialties, herb-roasted poultry, or a sophisticated cheese selection of medium maturity.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
