Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Cannubi 1997 comes from the historic Fenocchio winery in the heart of Piedmont and combines generations of winemaking experience with the reputation of one of Northern Italy's most prestigious single vineyards. The Cannubi vineyard is known for its calcareous, marly soils, which give the Nebbiolo grape particular structure and remarkable aging potential. The 1997 vintage is one of the region's classically firm years, providing the wine with a solid framework of balanced acidity and ripe tannin structure through long aging in oak, without any harshness.

In tasting, the example already reveals itself to be fully developed with a deep ruby-red color and a distinct brick-red rim. The nose presents typical characteristics of a matured Piedmontese wine, including candied cherries, candied orange, tobacco leaves, cedar, and mineral aspects of forest floor and dried leaves. On the palate, the body is velvety and harmonious, with residual tannins gliding smoothly into the finish, guaranteeing a long-lasting, earthy-fruity conclusion. This refined state is best accompanied by traditional Piedmontese dishes such as braised venison ham, Braciola alla Piemontese, or grated Tagliatelle with black truffle from Alba.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
