Gut Hermannsberg Kupfergrube Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2015 combines concentrated fruit density with outstanding ageability, supported by its acidity, due to its special iron-oxide slate soil. The family winery in the West Palatinate relies on minimal cellar intervention and natural fermentation, which preserves a clear terroir profile for this dry wine. The historic Kupfergrube parcel, thanks to its porous rock, delivers unmistakable mineral density, while the optimized 2015 vintage, with warm days and cool nights, created a perfect balance of ripeness.

The sensory evaluation reveals a dense bouquet of citrus oil, yellow apple, and damp limestone. On the palate, the wine presents as linearly clear with a firm structure, an intense flavor profile, and a long-lasting, saline finish characteristic of this Prädikat level. Optimal drinking maturity is recommended until approximately 2034, with prior decanting optimally releasing the complex honey and smoky nuances.

This wine pairs excellently with roasted carp or pike-perch from local waters. Roasted poultry and aged mountain cheese also find an elegant contrast to the fruit and acidity-driven base. Light mushroom dishes harmoniously round off the gastronomic arrangement.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
