Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 2014 This traditional estate in the Côte de Beaune is characterized by a strict philosophy of minimal intervention and a focus on old vines. The specific Champ Canet parcel features gravelly clay layers with high water retention capacity, which lends the must impressive minerality and a solid structure. The 2014 vintage was shaped by cool summer days and late frost nights, which naturally resulted in less juice in the grapes. This climatic feature results in a remarkably straight, vibrant wine with pronounced citric acidity, ensuring its long-term ageability.

The tasting initially reveals intense aromas of green fruit, apple peel, and wild blossoms, mingling with subtle nutty and ashy notes. On the palate, the wine presents itself as incredibly precise, very direct, and with an impeccable balance between fruitiness and mineral sharpness. Thanks to this compact structure, secondary notes of yellow peach and beeswax rapidly unfold when consciously allowed to breathe. For connoisseurs, the optimal drinking window is currently until 2032, offering a wide range of enjoyment. Recommended pairings include herb-crusted monkfish, grilled seafood, or semi-hard cheeses like aged Parmesan.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
