Jim Barry The Armagh 1995 is a Shiraz from the Clare Valley, one of Australia's most significant wine regions. Over the decades, this winery has established itself as a specialist in bold, concentrated red wines. The Armagh is the estate's flagship cuvée and represents the finest grapes from the region's best parcels. The 1995 vintage was an exceptional harvest in Australia, bestowing great longevity upon many of the wines from that era.

This wine showcases the characteristic power and depth of a mature Clare Valley Shiraz: intense aromas of dark berries, plum, and spicy notes define the bouquet. On the palate, distinct tannins with a fine structure are revealed, supported by sufficient acidity. The complexity has increased over the years, and the wine is now developing secondary aromas such as leather, tobacco, and subtle woody notes. Despite its age, this Shiraz retains freshness and elegance.

This classic pairs excellently with grilled or braised beef, hearty game dishes, and mature hard cheese. The wine’s power and structure harmonize particularly well with spicy and intense foods.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
