Kollwentz Eichkogel 1999 is a historical vintage from one of Austria's renowned wineries, which cultivates its wines on the Eichkogel. The combination of geographical location, careful maturation, and vintage specifics makes this bottle an interesting object for collectors and lovers of older vintages. The special characteristic of this winery lies in its consistent terroir interpretation, which maintains a characteristic coherence even in older vintages and allows the wine to develop further over decades. The maturity of this vintage is clear proof of how quality remains visible in the long term.

Tasting notes: The nose is characterized by ripe, dark fruit aromas, accompanied by fine leather and spice notes. On the palate, it reveals a smoothed structure, silky tannins, and a long-lasting finish that reflects its development over the years. The balance between fruit, spice, and minerality remains present, although individual bottles may vary, the characteristic substance of the vintage remains palpable. Such vintages can unfold further nuances with a little patience.

Food pairing recommendation: Ideal with aged cheese platters, dark meat dishes such as ragouts or game, and mushroom dishes. Slowly enjoying it over several hours allows for the best experience of its subtle developments. This wine is particularly suitable for collectors who appreciate historical vintages. It can be gently decanted to allow the aromas to fully unfold. One bottle thus offers multiple moments of enjoyment.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
