Kühling-Gillot Chardonnay Alte Reben Oppenheim 2020 embodies the precise craftsmanship of one of Rheinhessen's most renowned family wineries and perfectly captures the special characteristics of the Oppenheim region. Here, old vines with decades of age meet cooling gravel and pebble soils to guarantee natural concentration and deep minerality. The 2020 vintage was characterized by warm days followed by cool nights, allowing the grapes to achieve a harmonious balance of ripe fruit and lively acidity without sacrificing complexity.

In tasting, a brilliant yellow-gold wine reveals itself, whose bouquet presents ripe stone fruits, citrus notes, and fine mineral accents. On the palate, it appears taut and elegant, with a tightly woven structure and a noticeable, chalky length on the finish. The ideal drinking window extends from 2024 to the end of 2028, with a brief decanting further opening up the aroma. It is recommended to pair with grilled fish, pasta with mussel meat, roasted poultry, or mild cheeses, as the taut acidity provides freshness to the dishes without dominating them.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
