Kühling-Gillot Hipping Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2019 unites the precise philosophy of the Saar family winery Kühling-Gillot with the strong character of the Hipping single vineyard microclimate in Wiltingen. The estate traditionally cultivates biodynamic practices and consistently refrains from commercial yeast additions, allowing the pure voice of the terroir to fully express itself. The significant 2019 vintage provided the region with optimal ripening conditions, coupled with moderate daytime high temperatures and significant nocturnal temperature fluctuations, ultimately leading to an intense fruit body with an architectural acid structure.

The tasting initially reveals intense aromas of green apples, yellow apricots, and distinct porcini mushroom notes, seamlessly blending with delicate citrus oil tones. On the palate, a clear, very dry trajectory follows with pronounced blue slate minerality, dense fruit flesh, and an impressively long finish. Its solid body and harmonious balance make it an excellent companion for fresh white fish fillet with herbs, lightly spiced lamb, and mature mountain cheeses.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
