Kühling-Gillot Rothenberg Wurzelecht Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2011 combines the precise vinification of a leading Palatinate producer with the specific lime-loam profile of the protected Rothenberg site. The designation "Wurzelecht" (true to root) signifies a careful selection from old vine stocks, whose deep root systems unlock additional minerals and give the wine remarkable concentration. The 2011 vintage was characterized by consistently summery temperatures, resulting in fully ripe fruit. Exclusive single vineyards reacted with shortened harvest periods, ensuring that the essential acidity structure was not lost and this Grosses Gewächs displays a classic tension between warmth and finesse.

Aromatically, the wine reveals nuances of candied mandarin, white peach blossom, and a distinct stony note, accompanied on the palate by a taut texture and a long, salty finish with hints of juniper and dried citrus fruits. Its ideal drinking window begins now and extends to around 2035, meaning the natural balance between extract and fruit acidity allows for a gradual development over many decades. Elegant game dishes like hare, roasted sea bream, or aged mountain cheese are suitable pairings, their seasoning highlighting the finely effervescent cellar notes without overpowering them.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
