La Rioja Alta, S.A. Gran Reserva 904 2001 is a classic Rioja from the Rioja Alta region that shows you how patience and traditional cellar techniques create great wine. La Rioja Alta is considered one of the most renowned bodegas in the region and has been working for generations with the highest quality Tempranillo vines from old vineyards.

This wine consists mainly of Tempranillo with a smaller proportion of Graciano and is aged according to traditional methods for years in American oak barrels from the house's own cooperage. The result: a wine with an impressive acid-alcohol balance, intense aromatics, and mature tannins. The 2001 vintage brings additional complexity through its long bottle aging, which gives the wine depth and suppleness.

In the glass, you will find dense red fruits, spicy notes of oak, and an elegantly structured palate with a fine texture. This Gran Reserva pairs excellently with aged cheese, braised beef, or classic Spanish tapas—a wine that has maintained its balance even after more than two decades of aging.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
