La Spinetta Gallina Barbera d'Alba 2016
The La Spinetta winery combines traditional Piedmontese craftsmanship with consistently biodynamic cultivation to produce intense terroir wines in strictly limited single vineyards. The Gallina parcel selection benefits from the special microclimate of Castiglione Falletto, where cooler soil conditions and well-ventilated locations lend the grape additional acidity and aging potential. The generally excellent 2016 vintage becomes a benchmark for elegance here, as the grape harvest was deliberately late, guaranteeing concentration while simultaneously achieving harmonious polyphenol ripeness.

On the palate, the red wine surprises with dark berries, wild cherries, and subtle floral notes, flanked by fine spice and mineral nuances. The tannins are smoothly integrated, while a striking acidity holds the body firmly together in the long finish. The optimal drinking maturity is currently opening up sustainably and extends until approximately the end of 2027. The beverage is classically recommended for Piedmontese table culture, making it an excellent pairing for slow-braised dishes such as Brasato al Barolo, truffle risotto, or selected Alpine cheeses. Steamed pork also gains depth from the spicy fruit structure.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
