Le Macchiole Messorio 2015 combines the elegance of the Bolgheri coast with an outstanding Merlot-centric cuvée, which has positioned the winery internationally for decades. As one of Italy's first single-vineyard productions, this wine stands for minimal cellar intervention, long maceration, and a strict reduction of grape yields in favor of mature aromas. The 2015 vintage was characterized by a sun-drenched summer and low-rainfall autumn months, which allowed for concentrated fruit conditions and polished tannin structures, without losing the typical botanical freshness. This balance between opulence and structural strength clearly distinguishes the Messorio from heavy Super Tuscan imitations.

The visual opening reveals a deep ruby-garnet with vibrant violet edges. On first contact, caramelized plums, dark cherry, and violet blossoms dominate, complemented by maritime salinity, cedar notes, and light roasted aromas. The mid-palate is broad and velvety, while the acidity acts as a supporting backbone, elegantly framing the high alcohol content. The fine, well-integrated tannins herald long-term development potential. The optimal drinking maturity ranges from 2024 to at least 2036, with an additional five years in the cellar releasing further third dimensions.

The dense structure is ideally suited to slow-cooked wild game roasts, lamb crown roasts, or fully ripe mountain cheeses. Earthy side dishes such as porcini mushroom risotto or dark root vegetable blends also harmoniously highlight the wine's mineral undertones. Investors and connoisseurs will find here a consistently produced cult object that permanently justifies its price level through sustainable drinkability and territorial authenticity.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
