The Le Macchiole Scrio 2013 embodies the marine-influenced elegance of Tuscany's coastal Bolgheri region. This distinctive winery is now part of the Antinori family, but maintains its own focus on single-varietal wines. Unlike many red blends from the valley, this is a concentrated pure Merlot that benefits from older vineyards near the Adriatic Sea. Sandy soils provide minerality without excessive power, making it a special interpretation of the Super-Tuscan.

It has an intense aroma of wild berries and black cherries with subtle nuances of cedar, tobacco, and dried herbs. The palate follows this structure with polished tannins that elegantly envelop the fruit. As the acidity is excellently integrated, the oak aging in barrels is evident for the modern connoisseur. For experts, it is now at the peak of its drinkability, as it is fully developed. The complexity is also evident in the very long finish.

Hearty grilled dishes, such as young veal, or well-aged Pecorino Toscana cheese are suitable accompaniments. Chopped or roasted game also complements this robust style, rather than hindering it. It ultimately proves that specific regional roots in Italy can still stand up to global standards today and create valuable moments of enjoyment.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
