Luciano Sandrone Barbera d'Alba 2018 is a powerful red wine from the hills of Alba in Piedmont, created by one of Italy’s most renowned winemakers. Sandrone employs a conservative approach, allowing the Barbera to express its natural elegance rather than overworking it. The 2018 vintage showcases the best of this varietal: acidity that keeps the wine lively, and red fruit without any heaviness.

On the nose, you will discover cherries and blackberries with subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the wine feels dense and structured; the tannins are integrated and ripe, while the acidity provides freshness and tension. The finish is long with a pleasant mineral spice. This is not a blockbuster wine, but one with depth and drinkability.

Drink this Barbera while it is young and vibrant – it will display its full profile from now until 2027. It pairs wonderfully with filled pasta, hearty mushroom dishes, or semi-aged hard cheeses. One glass per person with a meal makes more of an impression than expected and shows that a great signature does not necessarily require a big name.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
