Niepoort Porto 1997 brings the maturity of a special vintage to the glass and is suitable for quiet moments of enjoyment as well as a stylish gift. Niepoort is one of the Douro Valley’s most traditional port wine producers. The house is known for characterful port wines that combine fruit, power, and a clear structure. The 1997 vintage makes this port wine particularly interesting for lovers of aged bottles with a distinctive character.

In tasting, the Niepoort Porto 1997 is expected to be fully developed, with dark fruit notes, dried berries, and spicy nuances. These are complemented by hints of chocolate, nuts, and subtle aging notes. On the palate, it appears concentrated and silky, with well-integrated sweetness, a present structure, and a long, warm finish. Serve it slightly tempered and give it some time in the glass after opening. This allows its aged aromas to unfold beautifully.

This port wine is currently in an attractive drinking phase and can be enjoyed for several more years, depending on storage conditions. It pairs optimally with strong blue cheese, aged hard cheese, or a dessert with dark chocolate and red fruits. It also makes for a perfect conclusion to a festive menu, accompanying a quiet moment with depth and warmth.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
