Niepoort Porto 2003 offers you a mature port wine with the depth of a great vintage. The 2003 vintage is considered one of the characterful vintage port years and already shows significant aromatic development today. Niepoort stands for port wines with clear fruit, fine structure, and a distinct, rather elegant style.

In the glass, the Niepoort Porto 2003 presents itself as powerful and concentrated. Aromas of ripe dark berries, plums, and black cherries combine with notes of cocoa, spices, and dried fruits. On the palate, it is dense yet well-balanced and characterized by a persistent sweetness. Its tannins are significantly rounder now than in its youth. The long finish brings back dark fruit and spicy nuances.

Its optimal drinking maturity is approximately between 2020 and 2040. Enjoy it slightly chilled and give it some time in the glass after opening. This mature port wine is a particularly fine accompaniment to strong blue cheese, aged hard cheese, or a dark chocolate dessert. It also makes a bold, festive addition to a cheese board with figs and nuts.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
