Paul Avril Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015 combines the producer's experience with the stable climatic conditions of the 2015 vintage. Old vines and a dominant Grenache proportion give the blend a compact texture and solid structural potential. According to the sensory standards of recognized trade media, the wine impresses with transparent dark fruit and a careful integration of high phenolics. The vinification avoids masking extras, thus preserving the authentic character of the Southern Rhône terroir.

The aroma is dominated by wild blackberries, cassis, wild thyme, and subtle nuances of graphite and dried herbs. On the palate, a full-bodied, velvety mass develops, supported by ripe berries, licorice, and a distinct mineral core. The tannins are present but precisely woven, ensuring a long, dry finish. The recommended consumption window extends from 2024 to 2039, with early consumption already revealing fruit and longer cellaring promoting increasing smoothness.

This red wine pairs particularly well with slow-braised venison roast, crusted lamb shanks, or aromatic porcini mushroom dishes. A selection of aged alpine hard cheeses also accentuates the spicy facets and expertly completes the serving concept.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
