Paul Avril Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape 2020 combines the Perrin family's nature-oriented winemaking with the clear characteristics of a warm summer quarter. The vines thrive on sandy soils under thick gravel layers, which gives the must an intense concentration and, at the same time, a stable acid structure. A high proportion of Grenache provides broad fruit and silky texture, while Syrah and Mourvèdre ensure mineral depth and lasting structure. The absence of mechanical filtration preserves the Mediterranean terroir entirely and guarantees excellent aging potential.

In the nose, a deep ruby with violet reflections appears, accompanied by sweet cherries, juniper, wild thyme, and white peppercorns. The palate is expansively velvety and noticeably full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and natural freshness that keeps every sip refreshing. The estimated drinking maturity is between 2027 and 2045, after which elegant secondary notes of leather, dried herbs, and spiced chocolate will develop with age. This wine is particularly recommended to accompany slow-braised lamb shanks, roasted venison, or aged hard cheese, which harmoniously underscore its powerful structure.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
