Pingus 1995 is more than just a wine; it marks the excellence of Dominio de Pingus, one of the most selective wineries in Ribera del Duero. The special edition PSI 2017 presented here in magnum format reflects the signature style of this estate: powerful yet elegant, with a fine balance that infuses the terroir into every bottle. The 2017 vintage displays a multi-layered structure that rewards patience and illustrates the estate's ability to blend grape varieties in an uncompromising mix of density, freshness, and precision. The magnum format intensifies the drinking experience and makes it particularly suitable for celebratory occasions. Critics from Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise the depth and balance of this blend.

At the tasting, the 2017 PSI in magnum presents itself in a deep ruby red, with a bouquet of dark berries, black cherries, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it impresses with a magnificent structure, silky tannins, a fine freshness, and a long, lingering finish that still offers room for development. Ideally, it will reach its drinking window around 2027, although the wine is already approachable now, it will gain in complexity with further aging. Food pairing: Grilled beef, lamb, or aged cheese – dishes that perfectly complement the power and subtle elegance of this wine.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
