Pingus Flor de Pingus 2011

The Pingus Flor de Pingus 2011 is a significant representative from the Spanish wine region of Ribera del Duero. The Dominio de Pingus winery is led by Alvaro Palacios and is considered a global icon of modern winemaking. The 2011 vintage for this location was structurally strong, with strict selection leading to extreme concentration. Although it claims less exclusivity than the main label, it almost entirely fulfills its quality standard.

Analyses describe an aroma of ripe plums and dark berries, complemented by subtle notes of smoke and spices. On the palate, soft tannins dominate, offering a silky texture and persisting long on the finish. Experts consider the current phase ideal for consumption, with a recommended shelf life of another ten years. This aging potential allows the connoisseur to slowly explore the nuances, provided they exercise patience in opening it.

For the perfect accompaniment, highly aromatic meat dishes such as stewed beef or venison haunch are recommended. These dishes fully withstand the intense character of the wine without overpowering it. Even hard, aged cheese can serve as a final course, as it harmonizes the tannin-rich aspects of the experience.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
