Poggio Antico Riserva 2001 Double Magnum brings the maturity of a special vintage to a generous 3-liter format. The Riserva comes from the Poggio Antico winery in Montalcino, a renowned origin for distinctive, long-lived red wines made from Sangiovese. As a double magnum, this bottle makes an impressive centerpiece at festive tables and is particularly suited for opening and sharing with several guests.

In the glass, the aged red wine reveals a multifaceted interplay of aromas, with dried cherries, plums, and subtle spicy nuances. These are complemented by notes of leather, tobacco, and underbrush, which frequently emerge in aged wines of this style. On the palate, the vintage is balanced and structured, with mature tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy, elegant finish. The extended aging period and large bottle format lend the wine additional poise and depth. The 2001 vintage is already well-aged and should be opened thoughtfully and aerated carefully.

Serve it with braised beef roast, game dishes, or oven-roasted lamb. Aged hard cheeses and hearty dishes with truffles also accentuate its spicy depth without overpowering the delicate aromas of age.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
