Robert Mondavi Opus One 2018 is more than just a wine; it embodies the vision of merging French Bordeaux tradition with Californian innovation. Founded in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the Opus One winery is known for red wines with a cross-cultural character. This cuvée combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot into an elegant, multi-layered blend. The 2018 vintage showcases the estate's ability to combine power and finesse, reflecting its signature balance of density, fruit, and spice. Critics regularly praise its developing complexity and potential for extended aging, giving Opus One 2018 an iconic presence in discerning collections.

On the palate, this wine displays a deep ruby-red color, accompanied by a concentrated nose of ripe black fruits, dark chocolate, and delicate spices with a hint of vanilla. The palate reveals structure and substance, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, an elegant balance between fruit, oak, and minerality, and a long, complex finish. Its drinking potential will continue to develop with age, provided it is stored under controlled conditions; it is ideal for special occasions and a growing collection. Food pairing recommendation: Succulent roast beef, grilled ribeye steak, or aged cheese complement the complexity of this Opus One, while game dishes also highlight its elegant structure.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
