Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino 1997

In the 1980s, Siro Pacenti was already among the pioneers in Montalcino who deliberately refrained from short barrique aging and instead opted for large, traditional wooden barrels to protect the natural freshness of Sangiovese. The vineyards are located on different south-facing slopes on calcareous loam soils, which gives the must a characteristic structural depth. The 1997 vintage was characterized by a sun-drenched summer, which guaranteed optimal phenolic ripeness. After sixteen years of aging in oak and subsequent bottle rest, the material has developed into a balanced, complex study of aged wine.

In the glass, it presents a long-matured brick garnet with bright rim hues. The bouquet unfolds dominant nuances of dried cherries, cedar wood, dry lavender blossoms, and a subtle hint of tobacco smoke. On the palate, silky soft tannins lead through a medium-bodied texture, supported by a clear, integrated acidity that extends to the pleasantly mineral finish. Hearty wild boar ragout, peppered venison medallions, or grated Pecorino Toscano are in direct harmony with the tertiary complexities and underscore the drinking pleasure of this milestone.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
