St. Michael-Eppan Appius Alto Adige 2011 is the quintessence of Alpine winemaking. The St. Michael-Eppan winery is considered one of South Tyrol's most innovative producers, combining tradition with modern winemaking techniques. Appius, their flagship wine, displays a pronounced terroir-driven character on limestone soils and undergoes careful aging. The 2011 vintage offers a remarkable balance of ripeness and freshness, complemented by subtle oak influence, fruit, and minerality. Critics such as Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise the structure and elegant aging potential of this wine.

In the glass, the 2011 Appius shines straw yellow with golden reflections; the nose is rich with ripe peach and citrus notes, accompanied by almonds, honey, and a subtle hint of toast, underscored by mineral freshness. On the palate, it displays a creamy texture, crisp acidity, and a long, complex finish that deepens with each passing hour. This wine is exceptionally well-suited for extended aeration without losing its freshness. Food pairing recommendation: Grilled turbot, risotto with porcini mushrooms, or veal medallions in a creamy sauce – dishes that perfectly complement its richness and elegance.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
