Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia Ornellaia 2011

This great red wine from Bolgheri brings the characteristic combination of Mediterranean warmth, power and fine elegance to the glass. The renowned Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia winery is one of the defining producers of the Tuscan coast. The 2011 vintage was produced under warm conditions and therefore shows a mature, generous style with a clear structure. The classic cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot gives it depth and complexity.

The nose brings together dark berries, cassis and ripe plums with cedar, tobacco, herbs and a subtle balsamic spice. On the palate, the Ornellaia 2011 is full-bodied and supple. Mature tannins provide structure, while concentrated fruit and a fresh, mineral character ensure balance. The long finish combines dark chocolate, spices and fine roasted aromas. The vintage is already approachable, but still has enough structure for a harmonious development until around 2030.

Serve it slightly warmed at around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It pairs particularly well with braised beef cheeks, roast lamb, game dishes or a rich pasta with truffles and aged hard cheese. This Bolgheri red also reveals its full aromatic depth with a slowly cooked brasato.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
