Weingut Clemens Busch Marienburg Falkenlay Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2016 combines the strict signature style of the family winery of the same name with the special conditions of the steeply sloping slate terraces along the Saar. The distinctive 2016 vintage was characterized by warm, sunny days and sufficient summer humidity, leading to exceptional ripeness paired with fresh acidity. The grapes undergo traditional vinification steps with continuous skin contact and natural yeast, allowing the wine to develop significant density and an elegant mineral line. Tasting reveals precise breeding with a dominant citrus component, yellow plum aroma, and a distinct flinty foundation. The palate confirms the dry style, with a finish that boasts remarkable depth and persistent length of aftertaste. This structure makes it a prominent representative of modern German top-tier wines.

Thanks to its stable acid structure and balanced alcohol level, it is already optimally drinkable and will continue to be so well into the late 2030s. With further aging, more complex notes of dried fruit, honey, and nutty facets will develop. This wine pairs excellently with grilled fish, pork hock, or Mediterranean herb pan dishes. Aged hard cheeses and light mushroom variations also find an ideal match due to the clear acidic architecture, allowing the terroir's earthiness to shine on the plate.

LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
