Keller Abts Erde Auslese 2017 presents itself as an outstanding expression of the Keller estate: concentrated fruit, clear minerality, and an elegant balance that impressively reflects the terroir of the Abts Erde vineyard. The warm 2017 vintage lends the wine depth and ripeness without sacrificing freshness, and the Auslese selection emphasizes the wine's exceptional density. Keller understands how to combine power with refined elegance, allowing this wine to develop remarkable complexity both in its youth and with age, providing clear confirmation of the estate's exceptional profile.

On the nose, an enticing array of fruit unfolds, featuring ripe peaches, apricots, and a hint of mango, underpinned by honeyed notes and a delicate minerality. On the palate, the wine displays a silky texture, persistent sweetness paired with vibrant acidity, complemented by spicy and mineral notes that lend depth. The finish is long and precise, minerally defined, and culminating in a lingering fruit core. Critics such as Falstaff, Parker, Jancis Robinson, Jeff Leve, and Wine Spectator praise the wine's style for its structure, maturity, and evident potential for development without sacrificing stability.

The optimal drinking window is expected to be from 2020 to approximately 2035, although the wine will continue to develop complexity beyond this period. Served at around 9–11°C, it unfolds its harmonious balance of sweetness, acidity, and minerality. Food pairing recommendation: creamy cheeses such as Roquefort or blue cheese, foie gras, roast duck with fruit sauce or fruit tart and almond nougat – dishes that perfectly complement the delicate sweetness and freshness of this Auslese.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
