Keller's Abts Erde GG 2012 is one of the iconic Grand Cru wines of the Keller estate and embodies the terroir surrounding Abts Erd. The wine's distinctive character lies in the explosive minerality imparted by the calcareous soils of this site, coupled with a cool freshness that lends the wine structure and longevity. The 2012 vintage displayed a concentrated balance between fruit and acidity; the wine already shows complexity but still has potential for further development in the coming years. On the nose, ripe citrus notes, green apples, and peach mingle with delicate florals and a subtle petrol note, typical of mature Rieslings. On the palate, the wine remains dry and precise, with vibrant acidity, mineral substance, and a long, elegant finish. Critics praise Keller for its consistent interpretation of terroir, and Abts Erde GG is considered a benchmark for a dry Riesling with great long-term potential.

The wine is in a developmental phase where its tension is maintained while depths unfold. Its optimal drinking window is expected to extend beyond now into the late 2020s; during this time, the wine will develop its full complexity and finesse. Its structure remains vibrant, and the aromas continue to evolve: lime zest, green plum, a hint of smoke, and minerality remain present, lending the wine a lasting length. The texture is creamy yet refined, and the acidity retains its crisp edge. Food pairing suggestion: Grilled turbot or monkfish with lemon butter, scallops, Asian-inspired seafood dishes, or creamy risottos with lemon notes are excellent choices; a mature cheese such as Gruyère also harmonizes beautifully.

    LIFE BEFORE...

Where possible, and especially with larger wine cellar purchases, the wine cellars of the previous owners tell us a lot about the storage conditions of the wines. A professionally managed wine cellar usually guarantees perfect storage conditions for the wines. We acquire our wines exclusively from reputable, mostly private wine collectors.

    HIDDEN FEATURES

Many high-quality wines today feature various security features for authentication, such as markings that only become visible under UV light. We check and compare all purchased wines for these features using an extensive database, and if there is even the slightest doubt, we reject the wine.

    THE DETAILS MATTER

We examine wine labels under a microscope to determine their quality, and we check the printed image for any peculiarities that are typical for a particular winery, wine, or vintage. We draw on a large image database to identify any anomalies.

    COLOR MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Last but not least, we also examine the wine's composition. Color, turbidity, sediment, and the bubbles in a champagne reveal a lot about the wine's or champagne's condition and potential drinking pleasure.
